  21. This update contains the following files:

  25. JUN96.TXT     Text file that describes what's new in this update.

  27. VIRSCAN.DAT   This is the main data file used by Norton AntiVirus. This
  28.               file replaces the existing VIRSCAN.DAT in your Norton
  29.               AntiVirus directory.
  30.  
  31. VIRSCAN.INF   This data file is used by Norton AntiVirus to display
  32.               virus information, such as virus characteristics and
  33.               behavior. This file is not required to detect or repair
  34.               viruses.
  35.  
  36. VIRSPEC.TXT   Special instructions concerning specific viruses.

  38. NAVEX.DAT     External detect/repair database for DOS NAV

  119. To update Norton AntiVirus 3.0 virus definitions:

  124. * If your version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 for Windows for DOS (NAV.EXE,  *
  125. * NAVW.EXE) is dated before December 1, 1995, you will need to update it *
  126. * using the NAV Macro Engine Update in order to protect against Word     *
  127. * Macro Viruses. If you have not updated your version, download the NAV  *
  128. * Macro Engine Update from the Symantec BBS, Symantec's FTP and Web site,*
  129. * CompuServe, America Online, or Microsoft Network. The file is called   *
  130. * UPDATEME.EXE and is located where the monthly update files are         *
  131. * normally found. Alternately, you may call Customer Service at (800)    *
  132. * 441-7234 to * order a disk set.                                        *

  135.    1.  Copy the file 06NAV96.EXE to the location where Norton AntiVirus
  136.        has been installed.  By default, this is the C:\NAV directory.

  138.    2.  Change the drive and directory to the location outlined in step
  139.        1.  By default, this is the C:\NAV directory.

  141.    3.  At the DOS prompt, type: 06NAV96.EXE -o
  142.  
  143.    4.  After the files are extracted successfully, you may delete
  144.        the compressed file.

  146.    5.  Scan a drive, directory, or file with Norton AntiVirus 3.0, in
  147.        either DOS or Windows.  Doing this, automatically updates the
  148.        Norton AntiVirus TSR.

  150.    6.  Reboot your computer to reload the updated Norton AntiVirus
  151.        TSR.

  177.        Computer window opens displaying your available drives.

  179.    2.  Double-click the drive or directory that contains the Norton
  180.        AntiVirus definitions update .EXE file.

  182.    3.  Copy the file 06NAV96.EXE to your Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95
  183.        folder.  By default, this is the C:\Program Files\Norton
  184.        AntiVirus folder.

  186.    4.  Open a DOS box and change to the drive and directory to the
  187.        location outlined in step 3. By default, this is the
  188.        C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus folder.

  190.    5.  At the DOS prompt, type: 06NAV96.EXE -o
  191.  
  192.    6.  After the files are extracted successfully, you may delete
  193.        the compressed file.

  195.    7.  Exit the DOS box

  197.    8.  Start NAV

  199.    9.  Scan a drive, directory, or file with Norton AntiVirus.
  200.        Doing this, automatically updates the Auto Protect portion of
  201.        Norton AntiVirus.

  203.   10.  Restart your computer so that the Auto Protect uses the
  204.        newest virus definitions.

  245.        AntiVirus for NetWare Windows configuration component
  246.        (NAVNLM.EXE), or at the server console using the function keys.

  256. To update Norton AntiVirus Network Manager virus definitions:

  258.  NOTE: The Norton AntiVirus Network Manager maintains a network copy
  259.        of Norton AntiVirus to support distribution. Make sure you have
  260.        access rights that allow read and write operations to the
  261.        NAV directory.
  262.  
  263.    1.  Map a drive letter to the volume and directory where Norton
  264.        AntiVirus is installed. You must have WRITE access to the
  265.        mapped drive.
  266.  
  267.    2.  Copy the file 06NAV96.EXE to the location mapped in step 1.
  268.  
  269.    3.  Change to the mapped drive.
  270.  
  271.    4.  At the DOS prompt, type: 06NAV96.EXE -o
  272.  
  273.    5.  After the files are extracted successfully, you may delete
  274.        the compressed file.
  275.  
  276.    6.  Logged in as a user with WRITE rights to the Navnet directory,
  277.        run NAV.EXE from the Navnet directory and scan a drive, directory,
  278.        or file with Norton AntiVirus.  Doing this, automatically updates
  279.        the Norton AntiVirus TSR.
  280.  
  281.    7.  If your version of Norton AntiVirus Network Manager (NAVNET.EXE)
  282.        is dated on or before July 1, 1995, you must modify your .NNS
  283.        configuration file to install/distribute all update files (by
  284.        default, this file is _DEFAULT.NNS)
  285.  
  286.        a) First locate the [InstallFiles] section in your .NNS file.
  287.           Add the entry:
  288.               VIRSP*.DAT
  289.               NAVEX*.*
  290.           to the list.
  291.  
  292.        b) Second locate the [DefinitionUpdateFiles] section.  Add
  293.           the entry:
  294.               VIRSP*.DAT
  295.               NAVEX*.*
  296.           to the list.
  297.    
  298.     The new definition files are now in place for network distribution.

  310.    1.  Copy the file 06NAV96.EXE to your Norton AntiVirus folder. The
  311.        default location is C:\WIN32APP\NAVNT

  313.    3.  At the command prompt, type: 06NAV96.EXE -o
  314.  
  315.    4.  After the files are extracted successfully, you may delete
  316.        the compressed file.
  317.  
  318.    5.  Initiate a scan with Norton AntiVirus to activate the
  319.        new virus definitions.
